Key West Tarpon Fishing

I would have to say that tarpon fishing is my favorite big fish / fishing trip. I say this because Tarpon are the most reliable big fish to target in Key West during the season of course. Tarpon season is basically March through July. They show up a little earlier pretty often, but that is totally up to the weather. Tarpon like warm water and dislike north wind and cold water. So, normally March through July. The last few years the peak tarpon fishing has been May, June and July. By the way, tarpon fishing is my specialty. I love doing it and it will show. I am extremely busy during tarpon season, So if am am booked I will set you up with on of my friends that spend a lot of time tarpon fishing as well.

The tarpon fishing in Key West can be done on a flats boat or a light tackle center console boat. If you want to sight fish for tarpon or try to catch one on a fly rod, you should charter a flats boat. If you just want to catch tarpon or several tarpon, you should charter a light tackle / center console boat and fish the Key West Harbor. You should also make sure the light tackle boat uses shrimp boat by catch or as we call it shrimp trash or chum. We will use the shrimp boat by catch as chum. We actually chum the tarpon up and get them feeding in the chum line. You will then free line a hook bait back in the chum line and get hooked up on tarpon or one of the many other species feeding in the cum line.
