Key West has some great shark fishing. Shark fishing trips are a great way to catch a really big predator that will just peel line of off a reel. Most of the shark fishing is done in the backcountry, of the edge of the flats or in channels surrounded by shallow water. What these means is you will most likely be shark fishing in calm and protected waters.

So Shark fishing in Key West is done in protected waters. This makes shark fishing a really good option on windy or very windy days. This allows you to catch a really big fish on a day that you would normally cancel the trip. Even though it may be rough offshore in the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico, it will be calm in the shark fishing areas.

The most common sharks caught around Key West are lemon sharks, black tips and of nurse sharks are always around. The lemon sharks and back tips put up a great fight and are loads of fun to catch. You will also have a shot at catching bull sharks, spinner sharks, altantic shark nose, caribbean reef sharks and maybe you will get lucky and catch a tiger shark or hammer head shark. Shark fishing can be done from any boat but a flats boat or a light tackle boat works best because of the shallow water.
