Dry Tortugas Fishing Charters

Fishing Charters to the Dry TortugasWhat Is Dry Tortugas Fishing?

Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas is about 70 miles west of Key West.  You can stop in and check the Fort out, but you can not fish there.
All of the fishing is done outside of the forts ecological reserve area.  The fishing around the fort area can be outstanding.  This is a great trip if you are looking for some crazy bottom fishing.  The snapper and grouper fishing near the fort is very good and the bottom fish can get big.  The only problem is it is a long run to get there.  On the way down to the fort there is plenty of fishing to be done.  I you run straight to the fort you will pass by several wrecks.  These wrecks can hold all types of fish including permit and cobia.  You just have to know which ones hold which fish at various times of the year.
If you are looking for some really good offshore fishing, you can run south a little so you are in a little deeper water where you may run into black fin tuna, mahi mahi, sailfish and other offshore species. There is also some very good bottom fishing on the south side, down west or way west as some would say. You can catch big red snapper, mutton snapper, big groupers and a few other species. To do this trip you really need to charter a larger center console with 2 or 3 outboard engines. With a boat like this you can get there faster than any other boat and be back to Key West that same day. The down fall to this trip is it is pretty pricey. Fuel cost are high and you will burn plenty of it.
