The backcountry is located in the same areas as the flats. The difference is the backcountry includes all the deeper channels and bays that are surrounded by the flats. Backcountry charters are done by fishing those bays and channels. The deeper basins and channels are like the highways and stop offs to the shallow flats and will hold all flats species and more including Jack Crevalle, Blue Fish, Pompano, Lady Fish, Sea Trout, Snappers & Grouper. A backcountry fishing charter can be done from several types of charter boats. A flats boat is very effective because you can fish the backcountry and also fish the shallow flats. Remember, flats boats normally will only take 2 passengers max. Bay boats are a little bigger and a good choice for fishing the backcountry. They can run through the shallow water, run through shallow water and will carry up to 4 passengers. Another option is a larger center console or what we call a light tackle boat. These boats are the most comfortable and the roomiest. They can handle the open bays better when it is very windy. Light tackle boat will take up to 4 passengers.
Backcountry fishing can accommodate everybody from the novice to the most experienced of anglers, because of the vast variety of species and ways to catch them there are fish for all skill levels.
